VD(Vitamin D)

Medical experts believe that vitamin D can prevent fatigue and depression even cancer. In frigid area of northern hemisphere, there are fewer hours of sunlight, which would cause lack of vitamin D in human body.

Vitamin D occupies a very important position for human body resistance and bone health in cold zone. It is to replenish calcium, protect bones, relieve bone pain, resist inflammation, prevent cancer, and enhance immunity. Moreover, medical personnel and scientist also claim that Vitamin D is an important material that can promote bone, protect tooth health, control calcium absorption, maintain calcium and phosphorus balance.

COVID-19

A new study released by the University of Chicago School of Medicine , lack of vitamin D may be related to the high infection rate of COVID-19.

Expert from the University of Chicago School of Medicine observed 489 confirmed coronavirus patients at the University of Chicago Hospital within period from March 3 to April 10. All patients with confirmed coronavirus were tested for their vitamin D levels, all of whom are lack of vitamin D. According to the study, the possibility of untreated patients with vitamin D deficiency are twice as likely to test positive for covid-19 as patients with lack of vitamin D. Furthermore, this study has been issued in JAMA Medical Technology Journal. it confirm that vitamin D deficiency has a high risk of fighting infection. The results of this study were also reported before the official publication earlier this year.

It is vital to understand whether treatment of vitamin D deficiency changing the risk of COVID-19 is of great significance for nationally and globally. As Dr. David Meltzer said, vitamin D is cheap and safe to take it every day. Conducting the clinical trials to determine whether people are deficient in vitamin D and how vitamin D affects the high risk of coronavirus infection. In addition, China’s disease control expert Professor Zhong Nanshan during the spread of the coronavirus, he appeal people being more exposed to sunlight and take vitamin D to enhance immunity.

The experts pointed out that it may be particularly important to study this problem in African and Latino populations who tend to high rates of vitamin D deficiency. African and Latino populations have the highest rates of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths.

The Mayo Clinic, known as one of the best hospitals in the United States, also pointed out that people should take the dose of vitamin D that doctors recommended. Excessive intake of vitamin D can cause the accumulation of calcium in the blood, which can lead to nausea, vomiting, weakness and frequent urination even kidney problems.

The importance of vitamin D

The regulatory effect of vitamin D on human: Vitamin D binds to the intracellular vitamin D receptor (VDR) after being hydroxylated twice to exert its physiological effects. VDR is a member of the nuclear steroid/thyroid hormone receptor supergene family. It is found in the nucleus of almost all cells, including the heart, brain, liver, kidney, bone, genitourinary organs, parathyroid glands and various immune cells. Thus, vitamin D plays a crucial role in a variety of cells and is associated with many diseases.
